JB Straubel (ex-CTO, Tesla) has been appointed to the company's Board of directors. Redwood Materials would make a great addition to Tesla's Master Plan Part 3
JB Straubel was appointed to the Tesla Board of Directors. This was made public through a Schedule 14A file to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. Tesla stated that JB Straubel, the Class I director, will succeed Hiro Mizano, an outgoing Board member.
Tesla also explained the reasons behind its selection of JB Straubel, the former CTO, as a nominee to the company's Board of Directors. JB Straubel's expertise as a Tesla CTO, and as Redwood Materials' head of battery recycling, would be valuable to the company.
"Board appoints JB Straubel, to succeed Mr. Mizuno, as a Class 1 director. Mr. Straubel joined Tesla back in 2004, and was our Chief Technology officer for 14 years. He played a critical role in our battery cell design and engineering as well as production. Mr. Straubel led the construction of Gigafactory in Nevada, as well the production ramp for the Model 3.
Redwood Materials Inc. was created by Mr. Straubel following his departure from Tesla in 2019. This company is committed to building a closed supply chain to support a sustainable world and accelerate reductions of fossil fuels. "We believe that Mr. Straubel will bring a wealth of operational experience to the company as well as his passion for cleantech and engineering to help us accelerate the world's move to sustainable energy." Tesla wrote.
JB Straubel is a long-standing employee of Tesla. He is listed as one Tesla’s earliest employees. He is also one of the company’s co-founders. It would not be an exaggeration if we say that Tesla would not have reached the place it is today without its former CTO. Straubel was in a relationship with Elon Musk before Tesla. Musk had previously funded Straubel’s research in lithium-ion electric batteries before he started working at Tesla.
